Oh the sweet joys of being pregnant and the funny things people say. To be honest, you're completely oblivious to it when you're not pregnant but being pregnant has opened my eyes to the ridiculous comments we all think are acceptable to say to pregnant women that sometimes are just darn rude.
What not to say to a pregnant woman:
"You look huge"
Well I am growing a human. And since when did it become acceptable to tell a woman she looks huge?! Whether she is pregnant or not! First off, you do not know her state of mind, she may have had a meltdown that morning about not fitting into any clothes and your comment certainly doesn't help with her confidence.
Counteract that with telling a woman her bump is small, don't do that - she'll panic her baby isn't growing well or try and convince you everything's ok - neither of which is required.
Ladies, we are all perfectly formed pregnant women, creating our very own babies in our own perfect way.
"Those 4D scans are creepy/he looks really weird"
Well, that's my child.
Yes, I totally get that sometimes the 3D scans are a bit odd of sorts, but it's the first time the parents have seen there little baby and I will guarantee you they are head over heels in love, thinking he/she is the perfect little human. Whether he/she looks "weird" or not, let the parents fall in love and join in with there joy!
"You'll never sleep again"
Albeit I may regret this, but I'm so excited to meet my little one and so in love already I'm currently looking forward to the sleepless nights where I can look at his perfectly formed face. Also, don't speak that over me. There is power in words, and I'm believing for restful night's sleep in the run up to labour and a peaceful baby, you should to.
"Will you have more kids?!"
Hello..I've not even given birth to this one yet! Give us a chance..
"Oh, it's a boy..girl next then!"
Don't be disappointed I'm having a boy, I'm not. I'm ecstatic. I mean I love DB, how much more am I going to love a mini version of him!?
This is an accumulation of comments I've heard being said to pregnant friends or to myself in the last few weeks and I thought as I'm transferring DEFINEDREAM into a bit more of a mumma blog it might be handy to share for those expecting mumma's and their friends!
In other news, today I totally fit into one of my maternity dresses. My bump is big enough to that I look pregnant - highlight of the day! This one is from ASOS maternity, and the shirt is just a basic from ZARA. Trainers, Reebok - in need of a good clean!
Anyway, be nice, be thoughtful and support those preggers women in your life. Tell us we're beautiful, that it's okay to eat that chocolate bar, heck go buy us another one, and do the journey with us..
